Pictures showing work to construct the ATT in Chatham County. The section just south of New Hope Church Road shows the extent of clearing required to construct a 12' wide trail. Clearing to this width involved removal of one row of trees on each side and necessarily the loss of the canopy from these trees for many years. The section north of New Hope Church will be a dual surface trail comprised of a ten foot wide asphalt section and a six foot wide crushed stone section. Construction of this section north of New Hope will require an even wider trail corridor. For some areas construction of this wider corridor will require lowering the trail by 1 to 3 feet, more tree removal, and rebuilding the drainage culverts. As you scroll down this page, you will see a number of images showing progress from September 2008 through mid-October 2009
